Description
A travertine top can work for a kitchen when the owner accepts that calcium-carbonate stone may etch from lemon, vinegar and wine and can absorb staining liquids. Travertine kitchen countertops are heat-tolerant natural stone surfaces, but trivets remain sensible for hot cookware. Honed, filled and polished treatments are available, and edges, sinks, thickness and dimensions can be fabricated to order. Impregnation improves stain resistance but does not make travertine stain-proof or acid-proof.
